Project Description

The project

TravelTrails is an online database, which indexes, categorizes and analyzes travelers’ accounts in the Eastern Mediterranean from the early sixteenth-century up to 1830. Based on the collections of the Gennadius Library and the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation, it helps the user to navigate through the diverse and rich historical information contained in travel literature.

Technical

We have developed Traveltrails.gr using Vue.js. The website is supported by an administration system that we have also developed where admin users are able to add, edit and delete each element of the website (sources, passages, tags etc)

The goal

Our main objective was the digitization of the rich Historical Library of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation.  At this point, TravelTrails contains the travel literature of the 16th century and primarily British and French travelers, who are representative of the genre both in terms of number and wealth of information.

The Process

Plans are of little importance, but planning is essential.

Analysis

During this phase we translate stakeholders needs and expectations into a viable set of software requirements. This phase is necessary in order to ensure that everyone related to the project understands it and is aligned with its goal and requirements.

Wireframes

Wireframes are a navigable prototype of how the application will work. They are not a final representation of the design. They look like simple skeletons of your website without the visual polish of the finished design, allowing us to experiment and iterate on solutions quickly so that we have a good sense of how content should be laid out across different screen sizes. Having the wireframes we can easily create the designs and give them to our customer

Development

Once our customer have approved the design, we’ll start building it. This phase is a quiet phase in terms of feedback, since it has been collected from the previous steps. This phase will contain also the database design which is an important step in order achieve the maximum speed and functionality. One of our main goals in this step is to adjust the final product in any screen size in order to accomplish end-user satisfaction.

Testing

Last but not least is the Testing phase, where we will test the project with multiple test cases scenarios. Any finding results on this procedure will be debugged and corrected before the final delivery of the project.
